ONION
Onions are used all over the world. It is cooked with almost all the veg and non-veg foods, especially in Indian culture. It is also be eaten raw as one of the ingredients in salads and raitas. It has small tiny roots and the bulb-shaped bottom is called onion. The leaves also are eaten raw and added in cooking. The leaves are usually mentioned as spring onions. The shape of the leaves is tall and cylindrical. It is hollow inside the leaves. It grows like a fan above the bulb. When it matured the leaves dies and the outer layer of the bulb becomes dry and brittle. When you cut onions, the chemical substance in them will irritate the eye and make you shed tears. There are many types of onions around the world. In India mostly 3 types of onions are used for cooking. They are Red onions, White onions, and small onions or shallots. Overall Onions are very important for immune health.
Shallots:
Shallots are formed in clusters. The colors of the shallot will be In yellowish-brown and reddish-pink. It has more medicinal value than the other two types of onions. These shallots are used for cooking and specifically in South Indian cooking recipes, the people use only shallots to cook certain dishes. Usually, raw shallots are taken with porridge made from millets like Ragi or Finger millet and Pearl millet.
